What is Smart Parking?
A parking platform combining gate / barrier control, ticket or RFID access, payment, occupancy sensing, and a back-office for tariffs and reporting.

Smart Parking — explained.
Smart parking is the umbrella for any parking operation digitised beyond a paper ticket. The core pieces are: gate / barrier control (entry + exit, with ANPR cameras or RFID cards or printed tickets as the access token); payment (kiosks, mobile, pay-on-foot stations); occupancy sensing (loop counts, camera counts, or per-bay sensors driving live availability boards); and a back-office for tariff configuration, season-pass / subscriber management, reporting, and reconciliation. The choice of access token matters more than it looks: ANPR is convenient (no token to lose) but depends on camera reliability and plate readability; RFID is robust (a physical card with a unique ID) and works well for sites with high subscriber volumes (offices, residential buildings, government complexes). Modern smart-parking platforms are increasingly deployed sovereign on-prem — the license to operate the gates is validated by an on-prem appliance that authenticates each kiosk by MAC address against a signed allowlist, so a customer's parking operation cannot be remotely disabled by a vendor decision or an internet outage. This is the deployment posture Zeour's Smart Parking platform takes by default.
Why operators care about smart parking.
Parking is critical infrastructure — when the gates go down, traffic backs up onto public roads and the cost is reputational and operational. Sovereign on-prem licensing means the parking operation continues even if the vendor relationship sours or the wider internet has an outage.
Buyer's checklist
- On-prem license validation (no internet dependency for gate operation)
- Multiple access tokens supported (ANPR, RFID, ticket, mobile)
- Tariff engine handles per-zone, per-time, per-day, per-subscriber rules
- Occupancy sensing + live availability boards
- Bilingual EN/AR baseline at kiosks; any other locale per engagement
- Re-localizable to any market in days (currency, plate format, phone format)

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)
Smart ParkingA contactless ID technology — a small radio tag presented to a reader returns a unique code, used widely for parking, access control, and asset tracking.
Sovereign Deployment
Sovereign DeploymentSoftware that runs entirely inside the operator's perimeter — their hardware, their network, their backups, their keys — with no third-party dependency for continued operation.
Self-Service Kiosk
Queue & Customer FlowA touchscreen station — Android or Windows — that issues tickets, prints receipts, accepts ID scans, takes payments, and stands in for a staff counter.
ANPR / LPR
Smart ParkingCamera-based reading of a vehicle's registration plate to control gates, charge tariffs, or trigger access — the no-token alternative to RFID for parking access.
Gate Barrier
Smart ParkingThe physical arm or boom that admits or refuses a vehicle at a parking entry / exit — controlled by the parking platform via RFID, ANPR, ticket, or mobile token.
Loop Detector
Smart ParkingA buried wire loop in the road surface that detects a vehicle's presence via inductance change — the most reliable vehicle-detection technology for gate barriers and counting.
Pay-on-Foot
Smart ParkingA parking payment model where the driver pays at a kiosk before returning to their vehicle — reducing exit-queue delays vs. paying at the exit barrier.
